FREE TOOL
Free invoice maker
Fill in your business, your customer and what you are charging for, and a clean invoice takes shape as you type. Print it or save it as a PDF, in English or Spanish, whatever the language of this page. Nothing you type is sent to us.
How to read this
- Subtotal
- Every line added up: the quantity times the rate, rounded to the cent line by line, so the columns always add up on paper.
- Discount
- Taken off the subtotal before any sales tax, as a dollar amount or a percentage. It shows on the invoice as a line of its own.
- Sales tax
- Your rate, applied to the subtotal after the discount. The tool does not know which sales are taxable or what rate applies; that depends on your state and on what you sell.
- Due date
- Counted from the invoice date: on receipt, 15 or 30 days later, or a date you choose. A clear due date makes a late payment easier to follow up on.
A worked example
A repair job: 3 hours of labor at $65 an hour and $48.20 in parts. The subtotal is $195.00 + $48.20 = $243.20.
A 10% discount takes off $24.32, which leaves $218.88. With a 6% sales tax rate (an example only; use the rate that applies to your sale), the tax is $13.13 and the total due is $232.01.
Example figures, not client figures.
FAQ
Questions about making an invoice
Is the invoice maker really free?
Yes. There is no account to create and no limit on how many invoices you make. Print each one or save it as a PDF, and send it the way you normally would.
Do you see my invoices or my customers’ details?
No. The invoice is built in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us. If you check “Remember my business details on this device”, your browser keeps your own business details so the next invoice starts filled in; customers, lines and amounts are never kept.
How do I save the invoice as a PDF?
Select “Print or save as PDF”, then choose “Save as PDF” (or “Microsoft Print to PDF”) as the printer. Only the invoice prints, without the rest of this page.
Can I make the invoice in Spanish?
Yes. Choose the invoice language under “Invoice details”. The invoice can be in Spanish while this page stays in English, or the other way around, so each customer gets it in the language they read.
Should I charge sales tax?
Whether a sale is taxable, and at what rate, depends on your state and on what you sell. The tool has no built-in rates: type the rate that applies to the sale, if any. If you are not sure, ask whoever prepares your taxes or your state’s tax agency.
What should an invoice include?
Your business name and contact details, the customer, an invoice number, the date, what you are charging for with quantities and prices, the total, the due date, and how to pay you.
